You mean the telnet client that comes with Windows? I have had a lot of
trouble with it freezing with many different Unix machines. I've used
TeraTerm and another free client instead and I like them better. TeraTerm
even has a SSH extension.
I also had a problem like this related to, IIRC, using IP Masq and there
was a bit if my /etc/rc.d/rc.local file:
# so as telnet don't break
# 2 hours TCP
# 10 sec after FYN
# 60 sec UDP
/sbin/ipchains -M -S 7200 10 60
