ever try "su -"?
the - forces login scripts to be parsed.
You can also do like "su - user" to force a login shell for a particular
user.
/etc/securetty defines what ttys are allowed superuser login access. I
recommend you don't add pseudo terms to this. Think of all the problems
that exist without this enabled...
