When I try to install RH Linux 6.2 with the graphical
installer, the installer loads to the RedHat splash screen, then it freezes to a
white, grey, or distorted screen with part of a window repeated. I believe this
is a conflict/compatibility issue with my video card. My video card hardware is
as follows: Card- Trident Video-97 AGP (v6.45.5423b.98 Manufacturer- Jaton
Corporation Chipset- 3DImage 985 DAC Type- Trident Built-In Memory- 4MB
DirectDraw 1.00 Software version- 4.0 Refresh Rate- Optimal
The same thing also happens when i try to load X Windows after
successfully installing under Text mode (GNOME). It loads to the desktop and
then it freezes to a blue screen, like the GUI Installer.
I have contacted RedHat support on this. They told me that the
card is supported and to try installing with the Anaconda updates. When i tried
this it also did not work. I also have a Creative Dxr2 DVD mpeg decoder card
installed on my system. I once had a IRQ conflict with the card and my video
card so I thought that it may be causing the problems. Support said it could
definitly be the source of the problem, so I took out the card and tried the
installation. It still did not work. I gave up with support
there. What could be causing this problem? Is there any other system
component that could be causing this problem?
Any help would be greatly
appreciated. |
