You should be able to use LILO and have it boot directly.  Loadlin was
handy for people with a duel boot system that needed to initialise some of
the hardware before starting Linux.  I don't think the version of
Slackware you have supports Plug & Play devices.

Just do a normal install, and make sure it does the LILO install.  I think
that was optional.  It has been a long time sence I played with Slackware.
(Last time I installed it, I used a BIG stack of 3-1/2" disks...)
