Linda,
You may have to do the install on another system with more memory,
and then move the hard drive to your 486 system. You can run Red Hat with
4M, but the installer needs more memory because it creates the root file
system in memory. You may need to manualy change the kernel RPM after
install to get the right one for the 486. But you are going to want to
upgrade the kernel anyway. Consider compiling a custom one on a faster
machine and transfering it over.
One nice thing about installing on a faster machine is that the
install goes faster. You can also do a lot of costom setup before
transfering the disk to the new system. Just make sure to create a boot
floppy for the new setup. It usualy isn't necessary, but I like to play
it safe!
If this isn't an option for you, then you will have to try another
distribution - one with a simpler setup program.
