Not to be discouraging, but I've noted that mice frequently have
trouble with these boxes under the best of conditions. Some PS/2
ports just won't work with them at all, and some operating systems (as
you've seen) handle some configurations better than others. I
frequently have to reboot a particular NT server (luckily, not a
mission-critical one =) to get it to reactivate the mouse when it's
connected through a switchbox. I ultimately resigned myself to a
separate mouse for each station, and share just the monitor and
keyboard.
You've added to your woes with the PS/2 -> serial converter. I've
also found those to be unreliable in and of themselves, as are
AT->PS/2 keyboard adaptors.
