Not that I know much about kernel hacking myself, but I also read
that. Basically, the criticism is that adding an extra processor to a
Linux box does not scale very well and it definitely makes no difference
whatsoever after you try to get over the 4 CPU threshold.
The answer to your second question, according to what I read is that yes,
the next 2.4.x kernel will improve SMP support.
