I recently wrote a HOWTO to document some of the custom administrative
stuff I added to a server I run at work. It was a little tricky to get
started, but the relevant document (the LDP Authoring Guide -- formerly the
HOWTO-HOWTO) has since been revised and significantly improved. If you run
Red Hat 6.2, you already have the tools you need. You'll just need some
reference documents as described in the LDP Authoring Guide.
If you just want to improve an existing doc, it's very easy; just send
suggested changes to the current maintainer. If there's no current
maintainer, feel free to adopt the document. There's a list of orphaned
docs at the LDP site. If you want to write a new doc from scratch, the LDP
Authoring Guide is the place to start.
I just got into this a few weeks ago. It's really not difficult. Linux
needs both software and documentation. Join in and contribute what you can.
The best place to start is The Linux Documentation Project
<http://www.linuxdoc.org/>.
