Try the alsa driver. I have another yamaha sound-card and it
works with latest alsa driver.

I have a toshiba satellite pro 4280 that has a S3 savage
graphic card. I don't know it I have the same model than you, but I
think you can use the same driver. Look for the driver at http://
www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop, under the toshiba
satellite 4280 model. There you can find an xf86 server that runs
with these graphic cards.
