Lost command history in Telnet session

For some reason, the command history (accessed using the line-up & line-down
keys) no longer seems to work when I try to access my RH5.2 Samba server
from my Win95 workstation. Both the root and regular user logins seem to be
affected. By the way, I'm using the standard Win95 telnet program.
