Well, all right, on a more serious note then...
1. Check monitor cable plus connector -- I had a loose pin in a connector
once, which caused random image disturbances. Really hard to pin down...
almost gave up on Scotch actually ;-).
2. Video card -- a Riva TNT AGP card worked fine under Windows, but in X
(not the Linux console), the image tended to jump a lot. Upgrading the card
firmware fixed that.
3. Monitor settings -- has it taken a knock recently? One of the electron
guns could be misaligned (although you'd see that by the colours being
weird). Is there a potentiometer for the vertical/horizontal hold? Anybody
twiddle that lately?
That's all I can think of. I'm sure someone else on the list can give better
advice.
