reg. partitions, formatting, mounting

While redhat 6.0 installation, is it possible to leave some of the
partitions (not / or /usr)
un-formatted and continue to  mount and install ?
I would like to have two partitions /abc and /xyz as raw and out of the
mount list.
Is it possible ?
