Bob,

The short answer to your question is yes and no. :-). The DSL service
will work with Linux
provided you get the Cisco 675. This will cost more but it is a better
device. Since the 675 
is connected to your system via ethernet, it will work with any OS that
supports ethernet. 
Please avoid the internal modem since there are available only with
Windows drivers. (Unless somebody knows of Linux drivers for the Intel
2100?). 

As for the ISP, you may choose any ISP in your area that offers DSL
accounts. US West.net is one such ISP but may not be the best choice for
your particular needs. If you absolutely need 
one static IP address then I suggest doing a little comparison shopping.
The basic account from US West.net assigns you a dynamic IP. You will
need to use NAT for your systems behind the 675. Hope this helps.
