Hello!

I have an original Netpliance i-opener that I am about to turn into
my second RedHat system, hopefully.

I wanted to ask you experts what was the best way to get from where I
am.. (finished with the first phase of the conversion, I have it
booting Windows 98 and I have about 3.5 GB of unpartitioned hard disk
space..and about 1 GB of unused Windows partition..) to a working
Linux system.

(This is going to be a fun little box, one thing I like is that it
has no fan! It will be very quiet...)

My big quandary.. How to get Linux installed without having USB
networking support on Linux.

This machine has no floppy, no CDROM drive, and it doesn't have any
kind of PCI or ISA bus for a currently supported networking *card*

However, it does have a hard drive (now) and USB, which is how I have
it networked under Win*lows

I can load the raw Linux files on to a folder on the Windows
partition fairly easily, since my Linksys 10/100BT Ethernet adaptor
works fine on windows..(My ultimate plan is to apply the USB backport
for 2.2.14 kernel)

But - the last and only time I tried installing Linux from files
stored on a windows partition (on another machine, back in RH6.0
days) the install didn't work, I got a message that the comps file
wasn't configured properly or something like that..

So I went the CD route.. Unfortunately, that isn't a viable option
for me this time.. No CD drive!

Its the classic chicken and the egg problem.. *laugh*

Does anyone have any ideas?

Much in debt to anyone who has that awesome idea that will launch me
into Linux nirvana...

*grin*

Chris
