I know it is a little off topic as far as the video card type. I am little
new to Linux however I am currently running Xfree86 3.3.5 and have not
considered upgrading to 3.3.6 yet since my video card is fine. I have tried
downloading all the files (since it was the first time) then I put all
Xfree86's files in separate directory then finally I entered the command
within the directory that the Xfree86 files are located:

rpm -UvhF *.rpm

You may end up having to manully install certain driver for your Rage 128. I
had to do that since my Xconfigurator keeps cutting out and I found that not
all drivers were installed. I had Diamond Fire GL1000 Pro then upgraded to
Diamond Stealth III Xtreme and I notice that I needed SVGA driver to work
with my new card. I ran Xconfigurator without success until I manually
install driver with a command:

rpm -ivh XFree86-SVGA-3.3.5-1.6.0.i386.rpm

Replace the file name with required driver for your video card. Then I run
Xconfigurator using SVGA driver then done. I was able to get 24 bit 1024X768
in X windows.

Hope this helps.
