Hi

I have a problem with xscreensaver locking under kde. I would like to
disable locking when
xscreensaver comes up, because the screensaver lock does not work with
NIS passwords. It is possible, of course, for each user to disable
locking individually under KDE Control Center > Desktop > Screensaver,
then turn "Require" password" off, but I would like to turn off locking
with xscreensaver for everyone, system-wide, so it is permanent.

I had a look at the XScreenSaver file in /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults. The
strange thing is is that
the option lock is set to "false", irrespective whether "Require
password" is set on or off.

The other strange thing is that, unlike kde, locking with xscreensaver
under gnome does work with NIS passwords, that is, a user can unlock the
screen using their NIS password under gnome, but not under kde.

I changed klock to chmod 700 so that the "Lock Screen" option no longer
works for ordinary users (this was because klock also does not accept
NIS passwords), but this still leaves the possibility open to lock the
screen with xscreensaver. This must mean that xscreensaver is not using
klock - but what then is it using and how can the locking device be
disabled permanently with xscreensaver?

Any help will be most appreciated.

Thanks
