Hello: I posted this earlier today but received not response but I know there must be other ISP's admins using REDHAT as there DNS, Mail, News, dialup, & httpd servers to thought I would give it another try.... I am an old R.H. Linux user, (4.2 in particular) but a new RH 6.0 user and am finding some of my old standby scripts that worked great for 4.2 cause problems in R.H. 4.2. One in particular is a script were I would grep /var/lock/ttyC..LCK# for the process number to kill of a abusive dial in user to our server. This script worked great on 4.2 running kernel 2.0.36, but on R.H. 6.0 running kernel 2.2.5-15 with pppd 2.3.7 I find that when I run the script I not only kill off the user login but any network connection for that particular ttyC# port that another user would log into later. So I assume pppd has evolved to a point now that you can not simply kill of the lock files and expect the port to accept a new network connection. This network connection does not seem re-appear after a good length of time also. Does anyone have a good method of killing of the correct process for a dial in user that allows the modem to reset itself properly. I am running a cyclades cyclom ye pci card with 32 ports of the board. Another quick question? Does anyone know of a good site or script tool to watch more multiple login users. That is dialup users with the same user name logging into 2 modems. A big problem but I am sure has been addressed and beat but again my script for 4.2 will not run properly on 6.0. What my script did was compared user names at 5 minute intervals on the dialup only ports and if it found a duplicate it would mail me a message and second kill off the second dialup with same user name.
