I think you guys are forgetting something. Most new computers are sold
with the OS installed. A lot of design considerations for the installer
are probably motivated by ways to make it easy for a reseller to get a
*new* machine installed easily. Installing as a means of upgrading (even
if it's because an upgrade doesn't perform as well as you'd like) probably
was never intended with these options
