I have been concidering using procmail to filter mail and move delete
incoming messages and know I can have fetchmail send mail to procmail to
do this. My question is in all the mta mda smart forwarders etc.. Is
procmail a Mail Delivery Agent (mda) as was suggested by a previous
post? If so what is serving that purpose now? Here is my current,
although seemingly ever changeing as I learn, setup:
mail received by ISP.
fetchmail gets mail from ISP and places it on same box, which happens to
be my mail server at the office.
imapd running to read mail (usually Netscape , My parnter uses outlook
since he does not do the *nix thing much).
Sendmail is running but isn't it used just to SEND mail?
what are each of these components called.
sendmail (MTA?)
procmail
mail
netscape messenger
pine, elm etc
imapd
pop3
Trying to get a feel for all these pieces.
