Sorry for the double post. Strange that my second message showed up first. My first
message must have taken the frontage road instead of the information super highway.

I seemed to have found part of my solution - egcs appears to be the package I want.
But it doesn't say which version of gcc it is. Also rpm -q gcc says that there is a
specific package called gcc where rpm -q egcs says no such package.
Sill digging - any pointers would be appreciated.
