Well, I believe only 1 TOC can be active on a CD, as only 1 partition can be
set active on a HDD.
In multisession, the TOC gets re-written for each additional session, and
the previous TOC gets ignored.
This is why we MUST import the previous TOC information ALWAYS before
writing a new session. Basically the TOC is copied and appended to for the
additional session. If this has not been done, only the last TOC will be
used for knowing where the files are on the CD. So, this means that only the
last session would be visible.
Years ago, when the Creative 2x CD-ROM drives still existed, they did NOT
automatically retrieve all session data. If I wrote a multisession CD, I
could see all files on any other drive bar the Creative, which would only
show the last (EVEN WITH IMPORT). It came with a cool DOS utility though,
that when run, showed the sessions, you pick wich session you want and bang.
That session was available for reading. I did an experiment on it and DID
NOT do imports on my next CDR. Believe it or not, I could STILL get back any
session I wanted.
What am I getting at? Basically I *think* that no data is lost, but you need
a clever piece of software that can basically re-point to the old TOC. I
never bothered reverse-engineering the Creative utility and I don't know
whether it will even help, but if you want it, I think I may still have it
somewhere (no guarantees though).
Let me know.
