edit lilo.conf add the line:

append="hdX=ide-scsi"

where X is the drive letter. 

Then re-run lilo.
 #/sbin/lilo

You will not be able to use the drive as a regular cdrom only a writer. Also
a great graphic front end to use the cdburner is gcombust. A search of
reshmeat.net will turn it up.
