Steve,
I have successfully used both 'Swedish' and 'Swiss' modems in France. In
the manuals, they indicate that there are some differences. But so far,
I haven't had the French telco (France Telecom) hunting me down. :-)
Still, you're most likely violating the agreement with your local telco.
In theory, you may be made responsible for any damages on the telco's
equipment. (I guess they could make you responsible to replace their
complete network if they find out. :-) I have still not heard of this in
reality, though. (But then again, I may be lucky. :-)
So, final answer: Try it if you dear. It *might* work. And remember that
YMMV.
