I run a VNC server session (the ORL/AT&T free remote X server/client) on
the PC. The VNC server (which acts like an X client, IYSWIM) runs
whatever desktop environment you wanted as second choice.

>From your primary desktop, you then run the VNC viewer and connect to
the VNC session on your own machine. Tada! Two desktop environments on
one screen. Great stuff this VNC.

VNC can be had from http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/ and is a piece
of cake to install across Unix and Window$ systems. I use it all the
time.
