Hi guys,
I am having some trouble with my X Server config...
My linux box:
J-530BF motherboard,
built in Sis 530 AGP VGA Card,
160 M (PC 100) RAM,
AMD K6-2 400
Running Linux 6.0 (XFree86-3.3.3.1, 2.2.5 kernel)
Here is the info on the sound card from the PC's manual:
-Built-in high performance 3D AGP VGA
-Supports shared memory 2MB-8MB selectable in BIOS Setup (I have set this to
8MB)
-64 bits memory data interface
-Integrated programmable 24-bit true-color RAMDAC up to 230KHz pixel clock
-Integrated two 96x64 video line buffers for MPEG video playback
-Supports 64 bit memory data bus interface
-Integrated high performance and high quality 3D engine
-Supports DIC, Direct Draw Driver
-Supports AGP Spec 1.0 compliant, 1xmode(66Mhz), 2xmode(133Mhz)
Problem:
I cant seem to get the correct resolution set up for the XServer.(SVGA
XServer)
Steps taken:
I ran Xconfigurator and it detected the Video card, then I selected my
monitor correctly,
and then I choose 8-bit 1024x768 resolution. In the Clockchip Configuration
window I
select No Clockchip setting (recommended) option.
Then, when I manually select 8MB ram for the video card (since if I let it
probe, it gives me an error detecting the video ram) and then when I start
the X Server using startx, the resolution/screen size is too big. I see huge
buttons, fonts etc..and I cant seem to change this.....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have tried running SuperProbe but I got the foll. o/p:
First Video: Super-VGA
Chipset: Silicon Integrated Systems (chipset unknown) (PCI probed)
Signature data: 14 (please report)
Memory : 0 Kbytes
RAMDAC : Generic 8-bit pseudo-color DAC
(with 6-bit wide lookup tables (or in 6-bit mode))
Why does this indicate no RAM whereas I have allocated 8MB in BIOS ?
Thanks in advance,
Ketan
