Setting the correct time

Hello,

I am confused on how I am to set the time on my RH 6.1 system.  I have been
told to use hwclock, but after reading the man file, it seems that emails
sent or received through the server display the wrong date and time.

Any ideas what utilities support the date and time of emails going through
the server?
