OK

Now I understand that I can create a PLIP/SLIP/PPP connection from one
computer to the other. Now I want to know how I accomplish the
backup?

I would like to do a "tar czvf /dev/st0" on the laptop and have the
output stored on the tape drive of th desktop computer. I know how to
telnet using Kermit and transfer files from a directory on the laptop
to the desktop. This I do all the time with a serial connection and a
Null modem. But I want to use Tar or cpio or some other backup
program to create the archive on the laptop but write the output on
the desktop's tape drive.

Thank You Again
John

I might be an old hand, but that doesn't mean I can't learn new
tricks. Anonymous.
