I would like to know how to backup my laptop computer to my desktop
computer using a Null Modem and a serial connection. I want to store
the contents of the laptop's hard disk on the tape drive of the
desktop.
The desktop is running Redhat 6.1 with a tape drive on /dev/st0. The
laptop is Redhat 5.0. I transfer files from machine to machine using
a null modem cable and kermit on both ends. I am not concerned with
speed, but I want some method for transfering the entire contents of
the laptop's contents onto the tape drive of the desktop. I am not
concerned with speed, so transfers over 115200 Baud lines are OK.
I have a 10base-2 network on the desktop, but no network card in the
laptop. I don't think I could use a network card since they don't
have 10base-2 (coax) PCMCIA cards for the laptop.
