*** I advice you to put the monitor settings back to what they were and
start looking at the your X config. The simplest solution would be for you
to get all the info on your monitor from Viewsonic and use that to set up
your XF86Config file.
If there isn't any you should start trying settings from other brands
available to you in XFree86. For example my Eizo monitor has the same
settings as the Sony 20EF...
