You can find links to Java for Linux on www.blackdown.org.

The jdk includes a java compiler, java vm, and applet viewer.  I have
run into problems with some Java applets not running on various
versions of Netscape.  In general, the Linux version of Netscape is
buggy with regards to Java - often crashes.
