You very probably have this already - you said you have XFree86-devel,
which IIRC requires glibc-devel.

You don't need that. gtk+ 1.0.* is obsolete, and the output of configure
you sent clearly wanted 1.2.*.
Just gtk+-devel-1.2.something will do.
If you need gtk+ 1.0.* for something else, you're looking for the wrong
filename - it's gtk+10-devel-1.0.6-5.
