do you really need to use pptp ? I know it is possible but I do't know how myself.
However, pptp is mainly useful for setting up a VPN and I could find a nice little tool
allowing just this using regular ip connection.

I could actually use this through 2 firewalls  (I do have cable modem myself).

To give you an idea :

- at home I have only one Internet IP for 4 machines => masquerading

- at work they have a firewall with an old distrib of Linux which just won't 
support anything like ssh, pptp etc... 

I was able to use Cipe to go through eferything just nice
