I'm not sure what you are all discussing, but if it has to due with 
problems connecting with 56kb USR modem, please don't give up,
I have a 56k USR Courier and connect to monmouth internet and
get a 53kb connection every time. No special setup required.
Standard KPPP dialer.  If you cannot get a 53kb connect, it may
be your ISP not cooperating. I had that problem until I found
monmouth internet.
