Steve,
What follows below is from a posting I made about a year ago, specifically
directed at connecting RH 5.2 to @home. It may be a helpful checklist.
One poster suggested a net mask setting which is different from
mine. Better off getting all your appropriate info via your W98 connection
and going from there.
Also, be very sure there are no typos. My fully qualified domain is
norwlk1.ct.home.com. I cannot count the times I entered norwalk1 (extra a)
and went nuts til I found it.
See below:
_____________
Get configuration data from @Home. Three places to
go, all starting from their Netscape/IE front end:
1-Help|FAQ|Proxy Servers: Get the information on your proxy server's url
2-Member Services|Home Networking|Networking Addresses: Here you'll find
your host name, IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway/Router, DNS Server names
and domain name.
3-Member Services|Home Networking|More Information. Here you will find a
9 page User Guide on configuring @home. VERY helpful. Print it.
With all of this printed out, you have all the @Home information to complete
the task.
Now, in Linux:
I used Linuxconf. Fire it up, go to
Networking|Basic host information. Enter the appropriate information from the
@home printouts NOTE: Use MANUAL configuration mode, NOT DHCP. This works and
is recommended in the user manual from @Home. (@Home used fixed IP
addresses.) If your NIC is not yet up and running select the appropriate
kernel module at this time.
Select Name Server Specification. Enter default domain and nameserver info.
Be sure the DNS radio button is selected.
Go to Netscape (I'm assuming IE is similar) Open
Edit|Preferences|Advanced|Proxy. Copy this info from the @Home printouts:
probably http://proxy:8080/
At this point you should be up and running.
