"Running Linux", Welsh, Dalheimer and Kaufman, is my bible.  If I could 
only own one Linux book (fat chance of THAT ;) , this would be it.  FWIW, I 
also think that the new Red Hat documentation which comes with 6.1 and is, 
I believe, available on their web site, does a pretty decent job on RH 6.1 
and Gnome.  For KDE, there's a SAMS volume on KDE 1.1 which is okay, too.
