FWIW, I'd suggest "Running Linux" 3rd Edition by Matt Welsh, et.al.
O'Reilly, 1999. Less oriented to the GUI than some of the other titles,
but very strong in content. It's not RedHat specific, but I never had
any trouble applying the information in the earlier edition to learning
on Red Hat. I bought the new edition simply to have it rather than to
use it particularly after a year or so of playing with Red Hat (although
I still consider myself more newbie than not) because it was generally
the one place I could count on finding what I needed. I started using
it in conjunction with Red Hat Linux Unleashed and then Red Hat Linux 6
Unleashed and just ended up using the Welsh book instead.
I have a very slow learning curve . . . it takes me a long time to
figure stuff out. I suspect a younger, more agile mind could make more
rapid and effective use of the material in Running Linux than I did.
