Ladies and Gents,
I bought a DVD player from toshiba a couple days ago. I used windows to play
a couple dvd movies. the quality blew. i bought a holleywood+ card (both
early chanukah gifts for myself :-) the movies and mpg files play excellent
and the tv out is awesome, under windows. i had not booted windows for
months before i bought this new hardware. the only things about this is i
could find for linux were some patchy little programs which seg faulted on
me which play mpeg2 streams which are already decrypted, which can be done
(illegaly) with the proper programs and 7 gigs of HD space, but this is not
a solution. i know that most companies can't get the css decryption codes,
but what is the deal here? is it more important to have the player and have
it be closed source with css decryption so the thing would work or have a
gpl'ed player which doesn't get the job done? this is for a plain and simple
dvd drive. let alone my holleywood+ card. i guess i should get into driver
writing, but does anyone have any other recommendations? anyone been down
this path and found that one rpm which did the trick for you that i can't
come up with? any projects i could help? what's the word?
