I checked "ps ax | grep name" and found "gnome-name-service"
but NO "named"...... Same effect? Are you sure??? ;-) What
is the effect of disabling named, or the gnome version??? Do I need
this?

PS: Everyone else, if you read my entire message you would have
seen I already tried setting the def. pg to a local file !!! as well as
to blank page, and a ton of other things I tried... netscape still
attempts to get something over the net, and doesn't stop until
minutes go by or more, or ppp0 is started. :-)
