Hello,
Netscape 4.72 locks if no PPP active.
Anyone have this problem? I do...
I realize this is a bit long, but is intended
that you get all the info to analyze this.
I have RHLinux 6.0 with Gnome desktop
and I'm running Netscape Communicator
7.7-2 (an RPM version).
I noticed that if I do NOT have the ppp0
connection live (that is, I'm not connected
to the internet, aka. not connected to my
ISP), then when I load Netscape, it loads
up fine, but soon as I try to click on anything,
like File, or click on the browser background,
etc., it locks up for a few minutes before coming
back. Mostly just Netscape locks, and not
Gnome too, but occationally that also occurs.
Still I can telnet to the box and kill Netscape.
Anyway, if during this time I activate ppp0
(I'm using KPPP to dial out) then Netscape
COME BACK AGAIN, or if I first dial out
then I do not experience the problem.
NO, I DO NOT HAVE THE HOMEPAGE SET
to the internet, no no no..... In fact I set it first
to a local html file, then checked off BLANK
PAGE in preferences.
I noted, using command "netstat -veenpac -i"
that there are packets sent out over device
eth0 and device lo, during the time Netscape
hangs, but soon as ppp0 goes live, then that
stops. FYI my default route is eth0 until ppp0
goes live, then KPPP sets up ppp0 as the
default route and removes eth0 as the default.
(And vice versa when ppp0 is stopped, then
KPPP makes eth0 my default route again.)
Any fix for this, or is this a bad application
problem in Netscape???
THANKS
-Jon
