My best hope for Corel Linux is that it'll finally shape up into the
distribution that will shove Windows off of the desktop. It doesn't
have to do everything, and do it better than everything else. It just
has to be easy to install, use and maintain for end users, and do what
it does well. If Corel can do that, Win(n) is in real trouble. And it
doesn't even have to do it in the first release. HOW long did it take
for Windows to get to even the current levels of usability?

I haven't seen Corel's, but the best newbie distro I've seen is Caldera.
(Red Hat is beginning to approach this with 6.1). However, although
Caldera is nifty to install, it isn't nifty to tweak afterward. I hope
Corel doesn't suffer from this same malady.
