Also make sure you only have TCP/IP enabled, and that you
don't have Windows set up to try and be the master browser.
If it tries to be the master browser, and uses IPX or NetBIOS
when trying to force an election, it wins because SAMBA only
"listens" to TCP/IP so it doesn't reply to the election request.
Then the Windows machine thinks it won, and never see's Samba.
One other thing to try - from the DOS prompt, try to mount a
share on the Samba machine.
net use //(samba machine)/(share name)
as in:
net use //gatekeeper/programs
If that works, then your problem is probably a miss-mached
workgroup name, or a master browser issue.
