I'm afraid it IS a Winmodem since it's PnP and depends of Windows to get
configured.

accept - with a strong protest - MS Office file formats (Word 2 & 6,
Excel 3, 4, 5 & 7) but urge you to stop using them. Alternatives exist! 
Like ApplixWare under Linux...
