Read the Linux Filesystem Heirarchy Standard, FHS. RH complies to an
older version of this standard, FSSTND, but FHS is a far better
implementation, much work has gone into it WRT interoperability and such
in heterogeneous Unix environments. It's also just, cleaner and more
refined. Actually RH may claim to comply to FHS as of 5.0, but I doubt
it's fully compliant, although I am by no means an authority.
