If you still need help,
Check to see if wires are inserted properly to the connector - that is if they reach
to the "end" of the connector - check each wire ( if one isn't than it might not work )

The color does not matter as long as they match up at each end.
(ie. the red cable in position 1 at one end must be in position 1
at the other end)
The cabling I have used in the past had a solid colored wire paired
with a wire of the same color with white stripes. I usually kept each
color together, it makes it a little easier once you start to cram the wires
into to connector.
Another thing is make sure and get good connectors, I have seen some
real hideous ones, and I have seen some great ones. With the good ones
you can usually line each wire in its proper position between your fingers
and cram them all into the connector in one fluid motion.
