As a newbie myself, I recommend you "go for it", and get the Redhat 5.0 in lthe box
($49.95) includes
a great book!  It will include everything you may need, and even maybe more than you
could use in applications!  It is possible to dual boot, and I think you can handle
it.  There is also the FAQs, HOWTOs, and MAN pages right on the CD's.  On the web
there is a FAT32 program, and when the time comes that you are up and running, you
may want to discover that.  Meanwhile, just get into the Xwindows of your
choice and learn that.  I think that it is a challenge to learn, and feel a great
sense of accomplishment that I have climbed a mountain which  "only" about 10 million
have trod, but there are yet about 200 million to follow.
