There is a bug according to Julian (mailscanner author) that is supposed
to be fixed in SA 2.60 but last I checked it was considered unstable. 
Seems like the patch was posted to the MS group but I do not have time
to futz with it right now.  There is some condition that occasionally
causes SA to time out and not complete the scans.  I my headers I see:

X-Elevating-MailScanner: Found to be clean
X-Elevating-MailScanner-SpamCheck: not spam, SpamAssassin (timed out)
