Exactly.  Ximian replaces many essential system packages with their
"ximianized" versions.  Installing Ximian Desktop onto your system is a
major commitment. ;-)

Having said that, I must say that I have Ximian on my system, and I enjoy
it greatly.  It's my laptop with Debian that's giving me grief.
