Just to let everyone know, I finally found a binary package combination that works for
my up2date'd Red Hat Linux 7.2 (Intel) kernel 2.4.20-20.7:
- Mozilla 1.3.1 - Sun Java J2RE 1.4.0_04 (j2re-1_4_0_04-linux-i586-rpm.bin) - /usr/java/j2re1.4.0_04/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so symlinked into my Mozilla plugins/ directory

Unless and until Red Hat issues an update to provide GCC 3.x for Red Hat 7.2 I won't be able to run Mozilla 1.4+ and J2Re 1.4.2+
As I mentioned before: I am running Mozilla 1.4 (RPMs from mozilla.org) on RHL7.3 with J2RE 1.4.0. This combination should work as well on RHL7.2 - I'd be surprised if it didn't, as the differences between 7.2 and 7.3 aren't that big, AFAIK.
Cheerio,

I downloaded a bunch of archived J2RE versions, including 1.4.0, and tried them, but they all display this error when Netscape 7.1 starts:
LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/java/j2re1.4.0/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji140.so [/usr/java/j2re1.4.0/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji140.so: undefined symbol: GetGlobalServiceManager__16nsServiceManagerPP17nsIServiceManager]
What version of GCC do you have on your RH 7.3 system?
