Just my two cents, but I would never do something that drastic on a
"production" server.  If you have the money in the budget for a staging
server to actually "migrate" to, that would be a very wise investment.

That way - if something unforeseen happens (and it ALWAYS does) - you
can just plug the old box back in and *presto* it's like nothing ever
happened.

If you don't have the money for it, I would say to stick with NT 4 until
you do...  A working box is always better than a broken box, whether
it's Linux or Windoze...  ;-)
