My suggestion to you is to contact Dell and they will advise you of what disk utility to run on the disk if it is covered by warranty. The only problem is they may not support linux. But they will tell you what utilities they have to check for bad blocks and remap them. They may even have you check the disk and replace it. I'm sure that they probably will ask you to reformat first, but give them a try.
